CV

Through my work, I turn something repulsive into something useful, something bearable, or sometimes even beautiful. I do this by exaggerating the ugliness: in philosophy this is called sublimation. Illness, filth, uselessness, decay, confusion, tention – the things that frighten me– I seek them out within myself, in other living beings, on the streets, bring them to the surface, mold them into a new being, give them consciousness – often, notably, in animal form. My sources of inspiration include cadavers, babies, (dead) ungulated animals, chickens, reptiles and hospitals.

With a background in existential philosophy and psychoanalysis I find it fascinating to make the suppressed become visible and bring dead things to life. Sometimes it takes months or even years before a work finds its final form. This process of buidling and destroying, working in circles, sometimes suddenly ends when the work is "finished", and for one moment gives remedy.

Materials

my materials are mostly intertwined with an interest in decay. Malleable, spit out, sticky materials, mud, pulp from old newspapers or toilet paper, animal excrements, mud, that which is already present and has some history, combined with metal, textiles, resin, glue, paint and pieces of old furniture.
